I decided to start a series of posts titled Things I like in Japan, which outlines just that.
Coming from the Niagara region of Ontario, maybe it’s silly to make the first thing I like in Japan grapes. In Canada, I was never a big grape fan. I mean if they were around I’d eat them, and I wouldn’t go out of my way to avoid them, but I’d never choose them.
Here in Japan, it’s a whole different story. I love the grapes they sell here. They’re fat, juicy, and ridiculously delicious. It’s even better when they’re seedless. In English, this type is apparently called a ‘fox grape’.

In Japan, people usually don’t eat the skin of the grape, and as they say, When in Rome…
So, I’ve been trying to eat them without eating the skin. When you take them off the vine there’s a pretty big hole in the top, that makes it easier than it seems to suck the insides out (and isn’t that a charming image).
If you come to Japan around this time (maybe mid-September to October) make sure you try them out.
